Conference on the safety of belgium nuclear power plants huge success

The ISR in cooperation with INRAG (International Nuclear Risk Assessment Group)  and the StädteRegion Aachen organized a public conference on the risk posed by Belgium nuclear power plants. The event took place on April 13 and 14 in Aachen, Germany. Media coverage included national TV stations such as WDR (ARD) and ZDF. Several hundred guests listened to our keynote speakers, including the former head of the US Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRC) Gregory Jaczko.

Public Expert Conference on 13 and 14 April in Aachen on the safety of the Belgian nuclear power plant Tihange 2

In 2016, the ISR published a study on the possible effects of a reactor pressure vessel failure at the Belgian Tihange 2 nuclear power plant (ISR Report Tihange). Just two years later, the Institute, together with the International Nuclear Risk Assessment Group (INRAG), is responsible for the conceptual design of a large-scale expert conference on the safety of Tihange 2. The event is organized in cooperation with the StädteRegion Aachen.

The conference will take place on April 13 and 14, 2018 in Aachen, Germany. The Friday session is specifically targeting a specialist audience, while the lectures and the subsequent discussion on Saturday are open to the interested public. The keynote speaker of the Saturday session include Gregory Jaczko, former chairman of the US Nuclear Regulatory Authority and Nikolaus Müllner, chairman of INRAG. The patronage for the event was taken over by the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Armin Laschet.

New publication

Results of a comprehensive work of the ISR bio- and nanotechnology group on the environmental distribution of nanoparticles in Germany and the associated risk were published in Nature Scientific Reports. The results of this modeling study are exemplary for a highly developed industrialized country and covers a maximum period of use (1950-2050). For the first time we were able to compare predicted environmental concentrations with first initial measurements from waterbodies. (Link to the article)
